Good Morning,
I'm going to try in English; hope someone can help me.
In the past I've made several concrete objects, mostly kitchen countertops.
Now I'm going to cast steps for a floating staircase. I allways tried to make my own recipes from scratch, to become as smooth as possible and they became thinner and thinner.
But for the floating steps it's going to be different. They have asked me to make steps looking like these:
Now it looks to me as if they were cast using a very dry stiff mix with large aggregates. And it looks like it's just a standard construction mix from the store.
The steps I will be making are less thick compared to the ones on the picture. Because of the hollow core necessary to slide them over steel wall mounts there is not a lot of wall thickness for using large aggregate, so I want to use pebblestones with max diameter 5-8mm. The thickness is also the reason I don't want to use standard construction concrete mixes, because I think it's not strong enough.
Now because I've got to cast 28 of those steps, and the mould is quite complex due to hollow core, it would be much easier if I make the mix more fluid. And then, maybe, give the steps an acid wash after casting. Is this a good idea? I know it doesn't look the same, but maybe it will look "coarse" enough.
My biggest question, can someone help me with my recipe?
Because the complexity of the mould I would like to add CSA to the mix, so I can cast faster and don't need to make a lot of moulds.
Thanks a Lot,
Bart
